I chose SW over Dulux because it was easier to decide on a color. There are more pictures and blogs available on SW and Benjamin Moore colors than there are for Dulux. We ended up choosing 3 popular colors that designers really liked. They go into detail as to why this "gray" has warmer tones vs that "gray" and how it would go better in lighting condition "X" vs "Y"...all too technical for me so I just trust what they say. When i walk into a paint store I get overwhelmed when presented with 50 shades of gray. Ended up just finding those designer chosen colors via the SKU available on the internet. Bought a few samples, tested at home by holding up bristle board against the wall both in the day and at night. Looked pretty good, no complaints... voila and done. Colors chosen!

Dulux can match the paint colors from other paint companies.

I think almost every paint distributor will match colours now. But, it's never 100% accurate, not in my case anyways. We had home depot match a Sherwin Willian colour with their bathroom specialty paint, and Benjamin moore tried to match another gray colour from SW as well and both was a bit off.
I don't have experience with Dulux but between BJ and SW, I'd prefer SW's Emerald line. With this sale it comes down to a very reasonable $45 or so for a gallon of their top of the line stuff, which you can't go wrong with.

Bought a couple gallons from the sale last week but haven't got around to painting yet.
Anybody have any tips for painting with Emerald (Satin) using a roller? I mostly want to make sure I don't leave lines.

Work in sections to prevent the paint drying. I always cut first then roll. In sections, rather than cut everything then roll all at once because the paint will dry and may leave noticeable strokes. Always do this twice (2 layers) for the best look. You can get away with 1 layer if it's a closet or something. This is especially true with emerald as it dries a bit faster than most other paints I've experienced. Also if you want to save time and not cut the second time, this would work too but won't look as nice.

I was wondering if this 40% off is only available in their residential stores?
I got to repaint the whole house so I called the store
I have called the Ste-Therese store to inquire about the price of the 5 gallons buckets of their Quali-quote paint.
The girl told me that with the rebate it was about 150$ (I can remember the exact price).
Then, when I decided to get the paint, the promo was over, so I went to their commercial store in Laval (as I usually do) and the 5 gal was 122$.
So either the girl at the residential store didn't calculate the special price right (but I specifically asked her if the 150 price was including the 40% rebate),
or they have way better price at their commercial stores ...
Anyone got the 5gal at a residential store willing to share the price they got?

In the disclaimer for this sale it says it's not available in Quebec. I don't know if every 40% off sale is that way

I just bought a gallon of Sherwin Williams for $45+tax after the discount on their Emerald line. Unlike Behr Marquee that isn't on sale at HD, it gets half the coverage because it requires 2 coats. Behr is $63+tax so technically still cheaper without a sale. I don't know of the quality differences though.. They are both top of their respective lines though. It might make sense to wait for an HD sale that commonly happens mid June if you have the time.

You do know that Behr one coat "guarantee" only includes selected colors right?
For any paint, you do not want to go with just one coat unless you only plan to make the room look pretty quickly prior to selling your house. One coat simply is not durable.

I used both in our last house and I prefer the Marquee. I went from a dark brown to a light grey and it covered beautifully with one coat and held up really well in our main living space. I was really skeptical that one coat would work, but it did.
The SW Emerald was in our kitchen and it was fine paint but nothing remarkable. It took two coats and it still marked up here and there. The Behr was done by me over existing paint and the SW was a professional painter on new primed drywall. Both were similar shades of grey, the SW slightly lighter but 1-2 tones. For the cost I would go with Marquee as a personal preference.

Their not designer colors, just colors that designers chose for their projects. Sea salt for a bathroom, Repose gray for 2 bedrooms and On the Rocks for a 3rd bedroom.
