Addresses must be printed in ink or typewritten. Pencil is unacceptable. The name and address of addressee must be written legibly with roman letters and arabic numbers, all placed lengthwise on one side of the item. For parcels, addresses should also be written on a separate slip enclosed in the parcel.

The address of items sent to general delivery must indicate the addressee's full legal name (see Note above) and the city and country of destination. The use of just initials, simple given names, fictitious names, or figures is not permitted on articles addressed for general delivery.

The Postal Service encourages mailers to use return addresses because if the piece is undeliverable we can return it. The return address has the same elements as the Delivery Address and must be placed in the upper left corner of the address side or in the upper left of the addressing area.

The easiest way to send letters from the USA to Mexico is with Global Forever Stamps for $1.55 each. You can also use regular, domestic forever stamps as long as they add up to $1.55. Extra postage is required over 1 ounce.

The last line of the address is reserved for the country name--- spelled out in capital letters ---- with the foreign postal code (if used) on the line above. International addresses do not have to be all capital letters just the country name. RETURN ADDRESSES ARE REQUIRED ON ALL PIECES OF MAIL.

Q: What should I do if I don't know the recipient's name? A: If the recipient's name eludes you, no worries. You can use a general term like "Resident" or "Occupant." It's like addressing the letter to the keeper of the mailbox.

Many pieces of junk mail can be returned to the sender. If you have not opened the mail, you can typically write "Return to Sender" or "Refused" on the envelope before putting it back in the mailbox. As long as the mail has not been opened, it can generally be returned without any additional postage.

A person's mail is their private property, and delivery to the wrong address doesn't change that. The U.S. takes postal crimes seriously, and opening, tampering with, or destroying mail that isn't yours can potentially land you in a lot of legal trouble.

The delivery address may appear on the front or the back of the mailpiece (but must be on the side bearing postage, except for Periodicals), parallel or perpendicular to the top edge, but it cannot be upside down as read in relation to the top edge.

The return address is not required on postal mail. However, lack of a return address prevents the postal service from being able to return the item if it proves undeliverable; such as from damage, postage due, or invalid destination. Such mail may otherwise become dead letter mail.

Write the delivery address in the center of the label or package (below and to the right of the return address, if possible), using the same format: The recipient's full name or company name. Apartment or suite number. Full street address.

Note: the 'C.P. ' is for Codigo Postal (Postal Code) and is optional. MEXICO Use the country name (in all capital letters) if mailing from outside of Mexico.

The bottom line of the address should show only the COUNTRY name, written in full (no abbreviations) and preferably in capital letters. Do not place the postal codes (ZIP Codes) of foreign country designations on the last line of the address. Do not underline the COUNTRY name.

The term Mexico City can also apply to the capital's metropolitan area, which includes the Federal District but extends beyond it to the west, north, and east, where the state (estado) of México surrounds it on three sides.
